As Walker and Green’s recognition and support creep upward in the polls, members and groups within the political arena are beginning weigh in on issues of the campaign.
A Democrat-created Web site, www.dirtygreen.com, criticizes the Green campaign for not returning a thirty thousand dollar donation from a political committee controlled by former House Majority Leader Tom Delay (R-TX), who was recently indicted on charges of campaign conspiracy and money laundering. Green claims that it is illegal to return the funds, yet Democrats argue he could donate the money to a nonpartisan campaign in order to increase voter registration and participation, an option legal under Wisconsin law.
Walker too has not been without criticism. A complaint made by two Milwaukee County Board Supervisors allege that the Walker campaign failed to include a disclaimer for their campaign-focused automated calls to residents, which landed Walker a five thousand dollar fine by the State Elections Board (SEB). The Walker campaign responds by highlighting the fact that they alerted the SEB of the lack of disclosure prior to the complaint.
Where does this leave the candidates?
One recent poll conducted by the Tarrance Group shows Walker leading Green 46 percent to 33 percent. Yet a separate poll shows Mark Green leading Scott Walker 42 percent to 37 percent.
But with one year to go before the election, no one knows what the outcome will be.
