The candidates speak:Jamie Wu and Anna Titulaer

The Warrior asked both tickets to complete a three-part questionnaire detailing the plans for their administrations if elected. Here are Jamie Wu and Anna Titulaer’s responses:

HOW/WHEN SHOULD RESERVE FUND MONEY BE SPENT?

The MUSG constitution states that reserve fund money must be spent on capital goods. In order to give the money back to students and student organizations directly, new legislation needs to be passed which states that this money can also be spent in other places, such as on the Student Organization Allocation committee. This is a process which we pledge to begin. The Wu/Titulaer ticket will put forth legislation which will allow student organizations to apply for the extra reserve fund money. It is our goal to give the money back to the students.

This money can also be used to bring more diverse activities to campus. MUSG activities must be diversified in order to accommodate all students on campus. We welcome students??? suggestions for how this money will be used; tell us what you would like to see, and we will make it a programming priority.

The debate over the Reserve Fund money is one issue where we differ from our opponents. Our opponents have stated they want to spend Reserve Fund money on the Norris Park Project. While Norris Park is a good idea and will help remedy our current problems with green space on campus, it is fiscally irresponsible to spend a significant amount of student money on a project that already has a number of stakeholders and will likely happen regardless of whether or not we spend money from the reserve fund. Part of our platform is listening and truly becoming the student voice on campus.

DETAIL YOUR APPROACH TO PUTTING A
STUDENT MEMBER ON THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES:

The first step is to show the administration and current Board of Trustees how important this issue is to the student body. We will begin this project with a student petition, to show that this is backed by strong student support. Simultaneously, we will present a weekly report to the administration and Board of Trustees with student requests, concerns, achievements and projects.

Once the petition is complete we will compile a proposal including the benefits of adding a student to the Board of Trustees. These benefits include recognizing students as stakeholders, making a mark in the Jesuit University community, and building a strong relationship between the student body and the board. Having a student representative on the Board of Trustees is something we are very passionate about. In order for board members to make proper decisions for students, they must be fully aware of the importance of the student???s voice.

We plan to work night and day on this issue, because we realize that it is an issue students are deeply concerned with, and in order for students to truly be the main concern of this institution, we need direct representation where decisions are made.

WHAT IS THE MOST CRITICAL ISSUE ON THIS CAMPUS, RIGHT NOW?

Student voice and expression is by far the most critical issue on this campus. All too often the voice of students is not heard. MUSG needs to be a stronger organization that truly represents the voice of students. This includes adding a voting student to the Board of Trustees. MUSG needs to make the extra effort to go to students, rather than waiting for students to come to us. All too often on campus, controversial issues arise and students are unable to respond with adequate support. Listening to students is a priority for us, and if elected, we will make sure that the student voice is heard, and we will stand up for students when controversial issues arise.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about the Wu/Titulaer ticket. Our platform centers on you, and serving your needs and responding to your ideas. Please look for us around campus and express what issues are important to you. Also, we invite you to stop by our website, www.Jamie-Anna.com, for more information.

As candidates for the Student Government President and Executive Vice President positions, our campaign continues to be listening, engaging, and innovating. Once elected, we will continue to prioritize your issues. With your help, Student Government will become a stronger body by welcoming your ideas and achieving real solutions.
